A necessary indulgence. A relaxing and renewing experience. A salon is
one of the few places that a client can enter with the confidence that
they will emerge looking and feeling better than before. At The Cutting
Edge Hair Design in Commack, owner Marie Perico's mission is to provide
friendly and professional service in an inviting environment. "We want
each and every client to feel like this is a place where he or she can
come to escape and relax from everyday stresses,” says Marie.
Marie
is an experienced stylist and certified colorist. Nine years ago, she
set out to open a salon with an “upscale atmosphere and highly trained
staff, but with prices that wouldn’t break the bank.” Longtime client
Renee DeFilippis states, “Marie certainly achieved that goal. I have
been a loyal customer of Marie for over 12 years, and I was overjoyed
when she opened up her own salon. The prices are reasonable and the
ambiance is perfect!”
The Cutting Edge offers hair cuts, single
process color, highlights, glazes, corrective color, keratin
straightening, relaxers, hair extensions, deep conditioning treatments
and scalp massages. They use Rusk Professional color and styling
products. Marie is an educator for Rusk and receives extensive training
in cutting and color. In addition, all stylists on staff are Rusk
Advocates and receive advanced training. They are able to offer their
clients both products and services (such as the new Rusk DeepShine
Keratin Treatment) before they are available to the general public. They
also offer a Spa Night once a month, joining with local massage therapists/estheticians to
treat their clients to free blowouts, conditioning treatments, mini
facials and massage.
For many people a new hair cut, color or
style is a transformative experience. At The Cutting Edge, Marie
understands and encourages experimentation. “I love that I can try
something radical, and have the full support of my hairdresser,” says
client Jeanne Kavanagh-Hohne.
Every October the salon holds a
one-day “Cut for a Cure,” which has raised over $15,000 for The American
Cancer Society. Marie also volunteers for “Look Good, Feel Better,” a program
that helps women cope with the appearance-related side effects of
cancer, such as hair loss and scalp sensitivity. She also volunteers at a
wig bank at the American Cancer Society in Hauppauge.
